Default '98 Mustang GT in Pure Stock?

What Pure Stock class would it fall in with the V8 and 5-speed? I know it doesn't have the PI heads but would it run the number with headers, tuning, gear, tires, suspension work? I've found one local cheap and want to get into class racing relatively inexpensive.

Natural H/PS add weight to I/PS THE BEST MUSTANG for pure stock!!! I bought one brand new it's best pass was 9.41 showroom stock 1/8 mile (if I had it to do all over again I would have just kept it & run IHRA only) mine was an Auto also.... 14.63 best 1/4mile.

Thanks Greg! My plan is to add long tube headers, good mufflers, 4.56 gear, lightweight wheels, DOT drag radials, and suspension work. How do you tune those cars? I've messed with LT1s where we sent the pcm out to be tuned to meet the mods but how do you do the Fords for performance?

I have the same question about the `90 LX 5 speed. My girlfriend`s been braket racing hers for a while, and thought the Pure Stock deal sounds cool. What class would it run, index and weight? Sorry, but I do`t know much about the IHRA stuff. Thanks! Lane

If the IHRA HP rating is the same, the '90 LX 5 speed runs F/PS. Factory rated 225, NHRA rated 220. F/PS is a 13 pound class; 13.75 is the Index, 3,030 pounds @ 220 hp rating. E/PS is 12 pounds and 13.40 Index, G is 14 pounds and 14.05 Index.

The 1990 Mustang LX breaks at 13.22 with a stick and a 220 HP factor. Its derated 5 HP. OEM is 225 HP. Factory shipping wt is 2908. Thats a natural F/PS with a 13.75 index. 13.0 X 220 HP=2860 plus the 170 for the driver is 3030 total on the scales. OEM exhaust manifols open or headers with a real muffler. slicks allowed. Blue printing the engine allowed and cam can be a regrind as long as the lift, duration, and overlap checks. OEM valve spring pressures required. spools are not supposed to be allowed but who ever checks....LOL. Pretty much like pre 1985 stock except for mufflers when using headers. .Pure stock is at 1 full pound breaks starting at 8 thru and including 16.
I see Mike Carr beat me to it.....LOL he had a better light.
