My Neighbor has a 69 Torino Cobra 428 Fastback. Nice Driver quality with
non matching 428 but fresh Ford Power Parts engine. He has owned it 20 plus years. It is a strong runner! I am a Mopar Boy and wondered if these are rare or collectible? I could probable buy it for 12K. Thanks for any Help! |

GTX John,
Though the 1969 Torino Cobra cars are a good bargain, money would be better spent on a 1970 Super Cobra-Jet 429. Mr. X I agree, the 69' Hardtop Coupe looked stronger,,,,,,,,,,'body-wise' ![]() In 1969, both the Hardtop Coupe (#3541 lbs.) and Fastback SportsRoof (#3599 lbs.) 428 Cobra-Jet 335 HP (non Ram-Air 428's) cars were classed in F/S or SS/J. (10.00 - 10. 49 wt/hp). The 69' Fastback 'SportRoof' car was notorious for a 'whippy' tail-end. General Performance; Road Test; 428/335 HP Cobra-Jet (non Ram-Air), 4-Speed, with 3.50 Gears and Traction-Lock 15.07 @ 94 MPH Motor Trend; 428/335 HP Cobra-Jet (non Ram-Air), 4-Speed, with 3.50 Gears and Traction-Lock 14.90 @ 95 MPH Motor Trend; 428/335 HP Cobra-Jet (with Ram-Air), 4-Speed, with 3.50 Gears and Traction-Lock 14.50 @ 100 MPH Motor Trend; 428/335 HP Cobra-Jet (with Ram Air), C-6 Automatic, with 4.10 Gears and Traction-Lock 13.88 @ 101 MPH Car & Driver; 428/335 HP Cobra-Jet (with Ram-Air), C-6 Automatic, with 3.91 Gears and Traction-Lock 14.27 @ 99 MPH Note; Car underwent a performance tune-up before the dragstrip test. John,
My thoughts are, what would you give for a 69 Chevelle SS 396 car without the original motor? How about a 69 442, GTO? Why is the Ford any different? Aren’t they all muscle cars from the same time and era? Didn’t they all reign supreme in some category somewhere? If the body is good, the mechanical is good, and the interior is good, shouldn’t that alone count for a piece of automotive history? As you can see I own a Cyclone. I faced this same dilemma years ago regarding the value of my car. I love the car. I did not want to sell it or make some restoration that I was scared to touch. I decided to race it. I am still trying. I don’t claim to know all the answers, but I am puzzled by some of the thinking regarding our type of cars. I also know from reading about you, that you would give the car a very good home and take care of it. I wish you the best.

For looks,
The 69' Hardtop Coupe (non Ram-Air), a flat hood without the scoop. Color; Red, with the black accent grille,,,,,,, 428/335 HP 'Super Cobra-Jet' ('Q'-Code) The 428 SCJ 'Q'-Code * cast pistons * nodular cast-iron crankshaft * externally balanced * 427 (Lemans) cap-screw connecting rods * engine oil cooler * Holley 735 CFM Carburetor 9" Rear 3.91 Gears, w/Traction-Lock limited slip A very 'sharp-looking' street sleeper, that could run 14.20's @ 100 MPH. pc Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 11-07-2011 at 06:56 PM. |

When I think Cobra Fairlane I think it has to have dog dish caps. Any fastback torino or fairlane with G.T. wheels makes me think 390.
