Default NHRA Division 7 gets another Divisional

Over this past weekend I got a call from a fellow racer that knows I work part time at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. He said there is a rumor that there will be an additional Divisional at Firebird. I contacted my boss who is the Operations Manager at Firebird. Yesterday he confirmed that there will be an additional Divisional at Firebird.

Current plans are for the track to host a Test and Tune the Wednesday after the National Event. The first Divisional will be on Thursday and Friday of that week. The second Divisional will be the Saturday and Sunday of that week. He also advised that the TA Dragsters and TA Funny Cars will only race on Saturday and Sunday.

For me, and the racers in the Phoenix area, this is better than the Phoenix Divisional being followed by the Tucson Divisional the following week ,like it use to be. It should be less expensive for all racers.

I will keep you posted as I get more information.

Yes the extra divisional is a bonus but lets look at the logisticts.... A racer not only took off half of the previous week for the National but now has to take an additional half of a week off work to run the divisionals. Also barring no mechanical failures(lord knows those dont happen) you will be spending $600.00 just in fees in 2 weekends. Not to mention fuel food etc.... with no time to financially recover or repair if you break. This could be hard for some racers. Financially good and timed for NHRA sucks for the average racer

Well, you don't have to go to both divisionals. Just go to the second one on Saturday and Sunday.

Which would you rather have, two divisionals in Phoenix on the same weekend or one in Phoenix and one in Bakersfield?

Wow. A double-header Divisional race. I didn't come up with that idea until 2004.

Don't forget that there is Pomona just one week before this bonanza

People who have - regular non-automotive oriented 8 to 5 jobs or college classes may find it a difficult schedule

I am sure the touring sportsman or racers with an automotive related job - locals and retirees will see it as a good deal

If you can get a qualifying pass Friday then it would be a little more interesting opportunity

You don't have to attend the National - these are just drag races so missing one is not the end of the world (as Toby suggests) - there will be others and the economics can be spread out to ease the cash flow

Personally - I would prefer one at Bakersfield - fewer consecutive days off work or away from school

As they say in real estate - location location location - and timing is everything

As usual on this forum there are many different opinions

Has anyone heard if who will be the Division 7 Director for the 2012 season ? what happened with this rumor ? I would like to know just who to address when I write them a e-mail of how much I appreciate the loss of a Div race close to home and the addition to another 1000 miles away that caters to the few that can afford a schedule like that ? So when will they reschedule the rain outs for two Division races ? Maybe they should just schedule 4 division races in Vegas all month long heck who needs to work anyways......
