Default 69 Corvette L-88 sells for $610,000

At the Mecum auction a 69 L-88 convertible Corvette sold a few minutes ago for $610,000. Looks like there's money for the good stuff.

...and the original owner drove it up on the block, too. Velocity took a picture of all 4 owners (3 previous and the new) together on the block after it sold. Nice piece of Detroit - err Bowling Green - muscle for sure. I wonder if the original owner wished he would have kept it all these years seeing what it sold for...

According to the description below, I guess you could have bought all 116 / L88 units back then for the price that this 'one' just brought...so what were these things brand new.

Quote:
This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, one of just 116 L88-equipped Corvettes built that year, is a multiple award-winner of the highest caliber. The car retains its original 427/430 HP L88 engine and 4-speed transmission, and its Daytona Yellow finish is complemented with a Black interior and Black vinyl auxiliary hardtop. Documented with the original Protect-O-Plate and showing a mere 20,000 original miles, this rare example of Chevrolet’s world-beating powerhouse Corvette earned Bloomington Gold certification in 2005, was inducted into the Bloomington Gold Special Collection, Bloomington Gold Corvette Hall of Fame and a NCRS Top Flight award in 2009.

I thought they had a slightly different one - blocked off (no hole) from the factory not just missing a hose

The Mecum auction going on this weekend is the best muscle car auction I've seen. The quality of the cars is outstanding and the high quality cars are bringing good money.

The one on the car is the correct one. There's a little 'nub' where the nipple for the hose would normally be. -Al

Looks like a hole to me (doesn't really matter) - I was just doing what guys use to do to me when I did collector cars - it was worth a laugh
