I believe it is common for tracks in a state or province that has a sales tax to include the tax in their posted entry fee.
The division entry fees are agreed to by the track operators and they understand taxes. Mission raceway has decided to surcharge racers on top of the entry fee. This is simply an entry fee increase to the racers. They are not required to add it to the entry, they can include it as they do with their spectator prices. Every other entry fee I have paid at other tracks includes all taxes. If we support this cash grab we can expect other tracks to follow suit. |

North Carolina attempted to pass a 'ticket tax' a year or two ago that would've added tax to all "tickets" -- from movies to 'cover charges' at the bar to racetracks, but thankfully it was defeated.

For what its worth Mission got hit by the tax guys, the way they do the 12% hst on bracket races is to calculate it backwords.
$49.11x12%=5.89tax Add $20.00 prize fund makes for a total of $75.00. For the points race i hope they do it the same as bracket races. |
