Has anybody heard anything from a reliable source regarding the 2- to 3-speed automatic rule change for next year? Is this a new rule to just appease the Glide racers, or is NHRA basically going to allow any auto trans. regardless what year the car is? I just would like to know how far reaching this change is going to be.

I sure don't understand how this even got into play. Do cars that get a 3 speed get more hp? You know, like the alum heads for example? I know there will be some that say that the 3 speed isn't quicker........but they will buy 2 anyway.
Now I don't really mind too much, but how can the so called stock ss NHRA committee push this through when they won't consider a seat upgrade and some of the more reasonable requests? Heck, I remember bloody hell broke loose over seats and no one that I recall was looking for jaz or kirkey's, just a better newer OEM or equivalent. Do we have to follow the money on this one? P.S. Maybe I do care if we combine sticks and autos....put me down for a clutchless 5 speed as a rider on that bill before Danny quietly passes it. :-)

Jim, according to the SRAC announcement that was posted here, it appears to be a done deal for next year.

Does this mean that my stick combination that is now limited to a 3 speed gets another gear?

I think that was allowed starting last year? But it may be Super Stock Only. I'm guessing that's why your seeing 55-57 Chevys running a lot faster lately. And good for them!

Gary Howe's '55 210, out here in div.6 runs the 3 speed in SS/N and I've seen it with a 4 speed in GT/L,, I'm guessing a 220hp 283 for that combo,,, cool car,, love all those carb spacers!

Stock : 2013 it will Be OK for anyone running a 3spd auto to
Run a 2spd and if you have 2spd you will be able to run a 3spd. All this will be better defined within the 2013 rule book. |
