Default '69 Camaro hood

I was informed on the weekend that a Super Stock '69 Camaro convertible with a 255hp combo is no longer legal with the cowl hood in NHRA. can some shed light on this please?

Nevermind i found the bulletin. well my car raced that way since '71. I'm not buying a hood so i guess i will save money on NHRA membership.

Don't blame NHRA. The story I heard was that somebody formally protested a racer that does pretty good.Probably was a personal issue that now affects everyone with that combo.

The hood was not originally available from Chevrolet with the 255 hp engine combination. The lowest hp motor in an SS where the hood was an option was the 350/300 hp motor. I remember the Lingenfelter 69 Camaro ran that combo in the early 70s with the 255 hp combo, but that car was originally a 69 SS pace car which came with the hood standard. I am not a class racer, but I assumed that NHRA allowed the hood with all the 255 hp cars that have ran the hood for years. The hood was an option later in the year on all SS engines, Z/28s and standard on the COPO cars and pace cars.

Cool Re: '69 Camaro hood

We can run racing seats which don't appear anywhere near stock but not the hood.

The seats are a safety item and how did the hemi heads get into the discussion?

When the Stocker Camaro's loose the cowl hood and replace it with a flat hood, i'l predict a performance loss of.....................ZERO!
But there may be a loss due to less hood clearance on an Super Stock Camaro. I'll bet it's minimal. And if it is more than minimal, you'll see a lot of '69 Camaro's jump from SS class to GT/SS class.

Hoods, seats, heads.....seat belts...
its the interpretation/application/tolerance/consistency of the rules that causes issues and additional costs to racers that could be avoided.

Cowl hoods were available from dealers back then, not sure parachutes are for stockers today, safety or not
