Member Posted on: Apr 23, 2007 - 6:28pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Benefit was a great success!!! It was overwhelming the turn out of people. I was in the silent auction area all day but from what I could see of the stands and the staging lanes we had to have well over 1000 people there. We thought maybe we would have 500 to 600 people. I was told in the concession stand they had to make a food run at least once. Thanks to Matt Alvey and his crew he had for working that area. I haven't got an accurate count but we think there were 30 or more juniors and there were maybe 4 or 5 lanes full of bracket cars. The show cars trickled in and out all day. Joey Bohanon was in charge of that so maybe he can tell how many he had. The money goal for the day was $15,000. We hit right under $60,000!!!!! That is overwhelming, $60,000!!!! Chad and Cindy Greer were both there, Cindy went back to the hospital after a few hours at the track. Chad's friends and family brought his bracket car to the track. They had done some interior work to the car that he was unaware of and it was a big surprise plus very emotional for him. We didn't know if he could or would drive but he said that Sunday would be the race for him to climb back into his car. He did real well, since it was Kaylee's Benefit Race, she seen to it that Chad won the race!! Matter of fact down to 3 cars it was Chad, Rick Greer (Rick is Chad's Uncle, who helped get Kaylee out of the car the day of her accident) and Charlie Bohanon. Charlie opted out of showing up for the semis and it was Chad and Rick in the finals. It was something you just can't describe. They had a special grudge match with 2 juniors. One was Tyler Bohanon and in the other junior in the right lane was his Dad, Charlie. Yep I said it right Charlie Bohanon in a junior. I just want to know how big of a shoe horn and how much vaseline they had to use to squeeze Charlie into that thing (just kidding Charlie). I don't know details of the run but Tyler kicked his butt pretty good. I do know Charlie ran a 8.15 and I think Tyler ran a 12.91. There were several bets made on the line that I heard. Tyler also won his age group for junior dragsters that paid $40.00 and he donated his money back to the Kaylee fund. Thanks Tyler. They had a small ceremony before the race started. Kaylee's favorite color is pink so Missy Boblitt bought pink balloons and gave them to all the junior drivers. Before the race started it was annouced Let's Race for Kaylee and the junior drivers released the balloons into the air. The weather was beautiful, sunny and about 80 and besides some gusts of wind it was perfect. I guess God took care of that portion. We didn't keep the funds seperate on which activity raised how much. There was a regular auction that was also a big hit. There was a helmet donated that all of the NHRA Top Fuel drivers and Funny Car drivers had autographed that was purchased by Richard Troxel for $1250 and he gave it to Chad. That got an applause from everyone. After the auction was over Chad gave a big thank you and a hug to 4 people who he said was responsible for saving Kaylee's life. The fireman (Tony Schindler), the 2 EMT's that were at the track that day and Rick Greer. I have to say I seen many tear up through the auction, the thanks yous from Chad, and especially when he won the race. We had so many volunteers that I can't name them all but just remember, it was appreciated and it went pretty smooth with all the help. We couldn't have done it without you all. Missy had a call at the track from a man in Australia who is the Marshall of a motorplex that run junior dragsters. They had a Wipit (a race) and raised $1000 Australian dollars which equals to $820 American dollars for Kaylee. Her story seems to be venturing into other countries. Thanks to Charlie Ford for his hard work at Belle Rose LA at the Sportsnationals. He said he had a constant stream of racers and others coming to him asking how to donate. He has been beating the pavement for Kaylee in the Cajun country. Kaylee had another surgery Saturday night to relieve some fluid build up around her brain. Cindy and Chad told TC (my husband) at the track Sunday that she did come through the surgery well and was moving her legs and arms. Chad said she was even yawning Sunday. He said it was because she stayed awake all night Saturday after the surgery. Keep the prayers coming that's the most important thing right now. One more time thanks for everyone that helped and donated Sunday and in the preparation for the Benefit. Thanks to Ohio Valley Dragway for the track and the workers thanks to Kevin Thornberry from US 60 Dragway and his workers. Missy Boblitt, Lisa Huff, and Laura Blincoe, Tammy Smith, you guys pulled it all together and it turned out great!! Sissie and Fox, Laurie (our videographer) , Debbie and a special thanks to JoAnn Morris for the many hours counting the donations, I don't know everyone's name that worked so it's not that we are leaving anyone out, I maybe shut off by a word count if I continue ![]() Donna Morris Never look down on anyone, that's only possible in Heaven to watch over someone, and from what I hear if you think you are superior on Earth the Gates of Heaven will humble you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total Posts: 13 | Joined: Aug 28, 2006 - 8:52am | IP Logged Never look down on anyone, that's only possible in Heaven to watch over someone, and from what I hear if you think you are superior on Earth the Gates of Heaven will humble you. |
