I have a friend with a 1965 GTO stock car that weighs 4050 lbs with a 700hp big block and a tremec with a 4.30 gear what would be a good radial slick?

Tremec? As in Stick shift? You don't want a radial .
MT stiff sidewall stick compound

Hoosier does in fact make a 9"x30" bias-ply for stick cars. Sorry, I do not have the p/n. However, with a 4,050# car, 700 HP and a Tremac....I sure wouldn't want it to hook to hard!
And why does a '65 GTO weigh so much?

Stepping away from what type of racing slick to use, I have a question ?Is the TKO600 stock ? If it is you may find anything over 6500 rpm, shifting will become a problem. I went through that problem with mine. If you go to the Liberty transmission site they have a few modifications that will alleviate the problem and extend the life of the trans. There are a few ways to go depending on whether the car is street/strip or just strip. I have my trans sync in 1st and 5th and face plated 2nd ,3rd and 4th. I drive on the street to car shows and on the highways longer distances with absolutely no problems and when you decide to turn it loose it shifts fantastic. Best to call and explain your situation and use and they can best explain what they have to offer.

Thanks for the advice, I was running the M/T 3055S which was working OK, 1.51 60', mostly in the 1.55 range. The car is a street strip, even has a hitch, just Got back from Hot Rod Drag week, where I put 5700miles on it, so it has some creature comforts!
The TKO 600 is face plated just as you describe, cryoed, heat treated from liberty plus I have a girdle on the front of it to reinforce the case. 3056st's might be the hot ticket... I will have to wait for spring now! Thanks for the input! |
