Cam question for crate motor
Building a 302 crate motor which calls for the 303A cam (.498 lift) and I just came across a good deal on a 303B cam (.480 lift but more duration)
I know the duration rule is unlimited and I'm waiting for a price from bullet for a proper .498lift stocker cam, but this would be a cheap alternative just to get it on the track. So, can I run a .480lift cam when it calls for a .498lift one? I know you can't go over, but can you run under? (I'm thinking yes but want to confirm before putting out an offer for it) |

Yes, you can be under. You'll love your Bullet cam when it arrives. They did the one in our Pure Stocker.

Re: Cam question for crate motor
gioinbroke2,
Don't waste your time w/303B/Acam,you'll be short 20-30 degrees duration @ .050 of what crate motor stocker cam will be@.050,not to mention difference @.200. If it's good deal buy it resale it and add those$'s to your bullet cam purchase. Mike Taylor 3601 |

Re: Cam question for crate motor
I think it depends on what you are looking for. Your car will run under the index with the B303 cam. I ran one in my car for 5 seasons.

Re: Cam question for crate motor
Thanks for the replies, didn't see there were more responses till now.
Mike I know it's way to short on duration, but this first engine will be low dollar (stock roller shortblock) Basically to get me out there. Then I'll build a bullet with the gapless rings and proper cam/etc. Chris, that's great to hear, yes I'm building something with a soft index (I'm also gathering parts so I can eventually go 1979 2bbl U/SA because of the low hp rating) Now if it will stop snowing and warm up a bit..... |

Re: Cam question for crate motor
Going over some old posts of mine looking for info.
Just realised I've been collecting bits and pieces since 2013! There's being cautious, watching the hp hits before committing to a combo...but 10 years??? LOL!! Happy to say I am making headway finally. (I think just committing to it was the biggest hurdle) |

Re: Cam question for crate motor
Nhra allows the old IHRA classes like crate motor and pure stock to run at opens here in division 1 and I believe division 2 does as well. As such our local association is one of many that allows them to continue running.

Pure Stock was fun. Eventually spent a lot more money converting to J-K/SA. Best the Impala SS did in F/PS was a 12.47sec/107mph. Index was a 13.75....there was 3 tenths more in it. Had to spend a good bit more cash. Open the headers, some mods could run the 12.65 K/SA index on a warm days. On fast track cool days, estimate 12.10's Rock and Roll !! |
