Default Question concerning spools

I am updating my rear end this year with Mark Williams axles and a spool.
Mark Williams wants $269 for his spool, but I can get a Dewco spool with Mark Williams splines for $155.
Anyone have any input on the quality of the Dewco spools?
Thanks,
Alan

Don ( Dewco) does many (most?) NHRA Pro Stock 3rd members. He has custom gear ratios, and other components for the 9 1/2" rears now used. I would not be afraid to use anything he sells. He knows his stuff.

I have worked on Mark Williams and Dewco third members and Dewco is nothing more than Mark Williams pieces.

Makes his price look even better. Don used to work for Richmond? He used to have a 9 1/2" gear set nobody else had. Mike Edwards used it at some tracks. Think it was a 5.08 or 5.10?
Lots of Comp guys use him too.

Not sure if he did....way before my time lol. I have worked for Pyle Bros. gor the last 5 years. 5.08 and 5.10 ratios in 9.5 are odd ball......but for the right price the manufacturer will make you any ratio you want in surplus lol. Just like ATI's 4.00 ratio for Top Dragster and top sportsmen guys who cannot make their mind up between 3.89 or 4.11......the only difference between the two is at most 200 rpm difference through the traps.

Before I lost my mind and started doing this again , I got in Mike's way for a while. Met Don during that time. I don't know if they run that much gear in Pro Stock now. Mike & Anderson were running 206/208 MPH back then, when about nobody else was.
The 9 1/2" stuff was originally made for fuel & funny cars, then the Pro Stock cars began to break 9" stuff. MW, of course, made the 9 1/2" cases, spools , etc.

You can get Moser and probably others to put in MW splines
on spool.....but not on their axles.

Moser will put either MW or Strange on spools and axles--- you have to specify which one you want when you place your order--- I do not believe it is an extra charge but you better call Moser to be sure-- FED 387

I talked to Moser at World Finals and they said no to putting
MW splines on their Axles. I wish they would as they are
a fair amount cheaper and offer 10% discount at all
the National Races. Nice folks and patient with my dumb questions
unlike MW at the races
