My son and I always like the stock and super stock classes and we have decided to start a new build. We are thinking of a 85 Mustang SVO, 2.3 turbo. Since we have been racing Mustangs for a while we have a decent understanding of what works and not for suspension. Just looking for any thoughts on what we may not be looking at as far as engine/trans combinations. I know we are limited on what can and cannot be done as it will be a stocker, but is this a good choice or is there a better combination out there for a Fox Body?

That '85 Mustang turbo 2.3 is NHRA factored at 220 HP. (manual trans only)
That h.p. factor seems a bit high to me considering the car has to use the factory intercooler. My thought on the 85-86 SVO is that it would be a really tough combo to get to run .3-.5 under index. Possible maybe. There was another board member on here recently inquiring about the 85-86 Mustang SVO in Stock. Might try some search keywords like SVO 2.3, turbo 2.3, etc. The easiest Fox body combo is the 5.0. (you can go automatic or stick with that setup)

I was also looking at the 84 Mustang it looks like the turbo 2.3 was available in the coupe as well. and would run O/S. I am just not sure if it allowed with the auto. I guess it will require a call to a tech official...

Marty Buth has one and he has his combo running very good. The 1983 2.3T combo just got hit with 3 horsepower for 2014.

Thanks. I have a few parts to round up and I guess we will start the build. I have a ton of stuff already including the extra body, with enough parts to make it a roller. Now just have to figure out what can and can not be done to the motor and trans and get working.

The '84 SVO is the 175 hp combo in the classification guide. (stick only)
The other '84 Mustang 2.3 turbo is the 145 hp combo. ( auto or stick)
