Wink Header Tether Requirement Clarification

Header Tether Requirement Clarification
For the 2014 season and beyond, NHRA has made the following requirement:
All removable multipiece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with either an NHRA-accepted header tether or a minimum ½” (half-inch) stitch weld located on each primary tube to prevent loss of collector/stacks during competition.
After much discussion on the topic, it has been decided that on cars with a complete exhaust system (including but not limited to mufflers, hangers, flanges, etc.) that are securely attached to the vehicle, header tethers will not be required. All other exhaust systems must conform to the rule as written. The current 2014 rulebook will be amended to reflect this change.

Anybody remember when guys used to sell personalized tee shirts out of their trailers?Well I
guess the pro teams eventually bitched to the Calif. Thugs and sportsman racers were told to cease the practice.I guess they couldn't extort money from them like they do with the pro elites.
They also stopped video replays on the internet recently.
It's the small things that they do that resemble having sand in your pants.
Remember the vehicle stickers for national events?Last I saw before I quit were these cheesy photo copied pit access you stuck on your windshield, hoping they'de last the weekend.
And now everybody needs tethers. What next week?Pampers?(Oh I forgot, diapers have already been required).
Bobby B. I'll go and take my meds now.

The rule says you need to have a tether that goes from the primary tube to the collector. If you have a collector extension, does the tether go from the primary tube to the extension ? The rule is not clear to me. Thanks for a clarification.

The way I understand it yes, unless you weld the ext.to the collector, when you buy a kit you will have to get the longer cable to reach. gsa612

What if your collector is completing welded to primary tubes like a street header and you bolt extensions to the welded collector?

Scott, This gets to my question about securing the collector extension. Does the rule require each part from the primary tube through the collector extension, needs to be secured with a tether ? Your design which secures the collector, and the collector extension with a single tether, could save a Racer the added expense of having two tethers if another tether is required to secure the collector extension. Does NHRA need to clarify the rule ? What is your understanding ?

what would the requirement be for welding the extension on to the collector?

I saw the one inch bead for each primary tube but nothing about an extension on the collector?
