"Almost" Live from New England Dragway

OK - So I'm not over it and I'm very jealous of those racers who are able to be at New England Dragway for the Nationals this weekend .But i've had several calls today from racers who are there and can share things with the rest of you out there that are stuck at home for whatever reason .

First thing - it 's good i'm not there .Why you ask ? Its not raining at the track but its all around the area and .............well you know the rest .

Thanks to Tony Filipone and his sons and also to Bill Shurla for their help getting news and pics to post .At this time i'm having a little trouble downloading the pics they sent but i'll figure it out .

Good morning - Congrats go out to the #1 qualifiers - Gary Parker in his wild wheelstanding 74 Corvette G/SA @-1.036 under and Vic Santos in his sanitary Firebird GT/HA @ -.996 under and will have a bye first round.

The Smyth family will have their hands full this morning with their Portatree entrys as Allison has a heads-up (A/SA) with Tim Boudreau and brother Steve in his Drag Pak FS/D will give a big head start to Bill Pomponis' H/SA 69 Camaro .In S/S look for Arnie Martel Jr. v Mike Letellier in a battle of COPO Camaros.

I spent a few hours at the track Friday, needed to get a bellhousing recertified at Hyatts, and wanted to see some friends. I only watched the last session of SS as I didn't get there until 2

Saw some nice runs in that session. The runs by the Armstrong powered cars are always a joy to watch, and the modified car of Scott Gove is just so impressive. Vic Santos certainly made the move of the session, moving his Boucher's sponsored Firebird from the 2nd or 3rd spot to the #1 qualifying position and still staying below the one second under mark. I think the sheet puts him at something like -.996 under. Keep in mind that Vic has been racing for over 50 years .

There were many more good runs in that session also, I heard there were some bald spots in one lane, but I did not see any traction problems.

Cars in stock were being checked for fake batteries and the modified group in SS were checked after one of the time runs, I think they pulled valve covers and maybe p&g'd.

I heard that Woody Pagano had trailer trouble on the way to the event and did not make it.

Looks like Tim Boudreau and Ally Smyth are having a heads up battle 1st round, Tim had some trouble, and didn't qualify very well, but rumor has it they got things fixed and I hope they both let it rip.

The weather was in the lower to mid 80's yesterday, and it was cooling nicely in the evening, expect it to get faster as the event goes on.

First round of Stock finished - both Smyths survived - Ali wins her headsup on a holeshot and Steve gets a redlite gift .Many, many reds and the stick cars having a tough morning .John Shaul gets his Mopar close to the wall but gets it straightened out and wins.S/S coming up soon - they were just called .
