306 ci ford, fun little grudge race car. 2700 lbs, ported 351 heads, 11-1 compression, solid flat tappet. want to make peak power at 6800-6900 rpm. Id like to shift at 7400 and cross near 7600-7800. Shooting for 215-220 cfm through heads. Cam will be roughly 270/276@.050 .625/.574 on a 105 or 106. C4 trans, 5800-6000 converter. 5.13 gear, 28" tire, 2700-2750 race weight. Looking for high tens. Dual Plane or Vic Jr? If dual plane....which one? Thanks a lot!!! Any real world 302 combinations to help learn from?

I ran a similar combination for a few years.306 c.i. small block,2900 lb. car.A little smaller cam and 4 speed.I would also suggest the Victor Jr., However an Edelbrock F4-B would be a good choice for a dual plane.I used one of those with a 1" spacer before the Victor manifolds were available.

Have you considered a small stroker kit? I have a 331 cube SB Ford bracket engine I have ran in my 85 Mustang Stocker. Its a flat top piston pump gas deal, with a 570 lift solid flat tappet cam, out of the box AFR 185 heads, 650 Holley on a Victor Jr intake. With a Jerico 4 speed, 4.88 gears, 9x29 slicks, at 3050 pounds, it runs mid 10.s at 128 MPH (best of 10.29)shifting at 6800 RPM, hitting 7200 thru the traps. Dynoed at 485 HP, which is pushing it with a stock 5.0 block, after 5 years, we found several cracks in the main cap bolt holes, migrating down to the cam tunnel, so a new block in in order now, but it was together for 5 seasons.

I agree about the stroker. The only reason we are doing it is because we basically have all the parts now as it is.
Mark..............what did you shift at? Moroso calculator says you mustve crossed about 6600. AND what intake/carb? Last edited by casrak7; 11-02-2015 at 12:31 AM. |

I'd leave with a 7800 chip in the two step, shift @ 7000.Finish line rpm was around 6800-7000 if I remember correctly. That was with the F4-B and an 800 cfm holley. The motor didn't like dragging a big tire around.
