I realize the reasoning behind setting quotas. However, if they have a quota set why not try to fill it? It seems like it would be easy to open entries to all classes even if they are full on Monday of the event or perhaps the week before. For example, only stock and super comp were full for Atlanta. It closed with 300 entries with a total quota of 345. More than likely, it would have not reached 345, but it probably would have allowed a few racers that wanted to get in stock or super comp to get in. Perhaps my thoughts use too much common sense?

Personally I think the first racers to be able to enter a national event should be the racers in the home division of that race no matter how many grade points. There is no good reason to have someone travel thousands of miles from a remote division take the place that a local racer would like to have. You can only claim the best 3 of 5 national events for the championship. I think this would help participation on all levels. Just my .02

Cooter. Send your ideas on the quota system yo Trey and Peter Clifford. I spoke to them together at the Houston race and was asked for solutions to the quota systems. I don't know if it will help but it won't if we don't address it. Mike McMahan 2543 H/SA

I've always felt that quotas are nothing but a way for NHRA to exclude racers who might otherwise compete, but are prevented from signing-up weeks in advance, because of circumstances often beyond their control. By telling people you can't race because you didn't sign-up early enough, you're really saying "we only willing to deal with this specific level of hassle". At races where attendance is poor (Brainerd), you can call the day before the event begins and get in. They don't have to exclude anybody, because they're dying for participants. They LOVE rules, and virtually all of their rules cost money and/or exclude people.

I'm only 30 minutes away from Englishtown and only have 4 grade points but couldn't get into Stock Elim. Mind you, S/G quota is 65 and as of now their are only 22 entered out of 65. I'm not in any way taking a shot at S/G but if their last few years Never came close to making quota, why is their quota set so high ?? Stock @ Englishtown probably could get 100 cars if it was set at 100. They also do run the Factory Shoot-out there as well.

I'm with you Cooter, I pretty much said the same thing yesterday in a separate thread. There is no logic to it, setting the quota for the Atlanta race at 345 is saying we can accommodate that many racers but if the others don't fill up they should bump the other categories up that are full. Not doing that is just assanine, like I said in the other thread they left some $14,000 on the table. It really expresses to me that they don't want us there.
I have 5 grade points and can get in any race I want but it's stupid for them to turn away racers that went on but couldn't get in.
