Mike, i think that most will agree, it depends on how far under the index you want to run? You can run a 283 or a 327, Powerglide or stick!

It may not be affordable, but the 327 350 hp (now at 293 hp) '66 deuce stick might be fun to try...the carb is a little small though.

Mike,
I run a 67 Deuce and the 327/ 275 Stick combo is great, nothing like banging a 4 speed . Being a 66 you do have a better Weight Break, so you can easily go up or down in classes. ??.Good Luck

Back in the late 70s we ran a 327 275hp with a Powerglide. The carburetor hurts the 350hp. At the time we had a choice of 3 carburetors,Holley, Q-jet and Carter AVS. We went faster with the Q-jet after trying all 3. Fun car to run, but had some fast cars in F/SA at the tiem to deal with. Never got the car developed like we would have liked. I bought a 66 350hp new in Jan 66. Would like to have one again to play with, but they are getting pricy.
