James, I don't think they're busting me. THAT was the stupidest thing that I've EVER done racing. I watched Bob Broadbent blow the tires off of his car in the rear view mirror and thought, "OK, ya gotta run it to the 1000 ft to get a number for your run completer". I ran it to the 1000 and clicked neutral and just laid my foot lightly on the brake. I never ever thought that car could have gone that fast. I honestly thought that I was dialed stiff.
Oh well, just another chapter for the book "How to not win at Drag Racing".
OBTW James, I only use 7 plugs in the gold Nova. i don't want to go too fast. ;-)

One year at the Epping race Gene Monahan was driving the old Gold Digger L/SA '69 Chevelle wagon and me in my A/SA '64 Plymouth, Gene stumbled off the line and slowed, I blew by him and figured he broke and went into cruise mode after half track until I looked into my side view mirror and saw him almost next to me and I almost soiled myself! I got back in it just in time to get there first! But man that would have been embarasing.
He drove by me at the scales with a big grin on!

Been there and almost done that..
I was at Douglas, WY the week before the Mile High Nats in 2002 and didn't make a pass that was worth a scrap.
I get to race Donnie Beeler in the first round. I still was working on the car to find an 8000 foot tune. So I dial the car at the slowest pass that I had made, figuring I could always slow it down. So I get about a 1 second head start and as I leave the line, I say to myself that it felt pretty good. So I'm looking in the mirror after I get into high gear and I can't find him..
I finally find him and he had broke about 100' out, so I just get off the gas and I am coasting toward the finish line..
All of a sudden the light bulb comes on and I don't have a clue what my car would run.
I slam on the brakes and run right on my dial in..
I figure that if I broke out, Beeler would still be laughing about it..
It's just one of the many ways to beat yourself..

Bob
