This is a direct quote from the NHRA web site posting of 09/10/07 regarding the use of 2-step buttons in Stock:
"After NHRA announced its intent to restrict the use of buttons to only selected mechanical types in Super Stock and Comp Eliminator, many Stock category racers have voiced their opinions to do away with the two-step button in Stock completely or permit the use of a two step button activated by the clutch or brake pedal only." Using Nitro Joes Stats of 08/01/07 the following information was gleaned: Total car count: 1262 Standard Shift: 147 Automatic: 1115 How many racers is "MANY" out of a pool of 1262 competitors? Is it 1%, 5%, 10% or more, because surely "MANY" is a lot of competitors? Is this being driven by NHRA, or by the ?MANY?? Does NHRA have any other reason to change the way competitors drive their cars, other than the request of "MANY"? Has NHRA caught an NHRA Stock driver using a 2-step to CHEAT with and if so, what was the penalty? It is better to have us fighting amongst ourselves than looking at the BIG picture of how NHRA is going to set up Sportsman racing after the pros leave NHRA? Would it be better to make buttons mandatory in all STOCK cars to level the playing field? Is the above statement as stupid as removing all the buttons in STOCK? Is this why we will never have any status NHRA because we don't see the BIG picture? Do we want to change things that been legal in our class for 20 years on the request of "MANY"? Does NHRA want the buttons removed or is it just the "MANY" driving this change? Will Len Imbrogno or our racer reps (who surely were consulted) post to clarify the NHRA position in this matter? What's next video cameras in stick cars to make sure they use the clutch when shifting, because the "MANY" want to know? Will blinders, corrective lens, merge collectors and beards be made illegal by the request of the "MANY"? What happened to random drug testing at the races? Does NHRA go anyway the wind blows to make it easy on the tech people? Is NHRA trying to break the All Time Record for rule changes in a 5-year period? I don't have any answers, just questions. I do know one thing and that is if we all don't work for the common good and stop this self-serving crap we won't have stock anymore. Bob Mulry Stock (while it lasts)
