I know this is old but I was wondering if anyone knew why Robin Brown was not credited with the SS/K record in Feb when he ran 9.89 in Houston. The prior record was Nicholson at 9.96. K was hit with HP on monday also. Why would they do that and not give Brown the record. I'm new and still trying to figure some of this stuff out.

I believe weather conditions prevented a backup run.

Also if the record run was more than 1.40 under it would negate the record due to the combo not meeting the new legal weight after the HP hit. The only way around that would be to carry the additional weight (overweight) on the record and backup passes.

Although the weather changed on Saturday morning, and Robin just missed on the clutch, the real problem in my opinion is that racing was shut down Friday evening at about 5:30 with 30 SS ready to be the next called up...sun was out, wind had died down. Robin danced on the two-edged sword all weekend really wanting to set the record (as a reward for all his effort and basic desire to "see how fast she'll go") and not wanting to get hit with the 1.40 penalty....in the end his passion to go fast ended in disaster, just missing the backup run (I'm sure Friday night would have done it) , then having to tear down, then getting HP and no record
My partner and myself had encouraged Robin to come to Houston in Feb for that sole purpose, and we feel bad how this turned out..I think Ron & I feel worse than Robin, who took it like a man...I would have been kicking and screaming...in fact I did write a letter to the Div 4 Director, mainly bringing to his attention the decision to shut off qualifying Friday evening when all conditions were in good order for a 20 minute SS session and that racers had travelled long distances at this time of year for one reason only We had also encouraged a Stock class racer to attend, and he was fortunate enough to have good enough conditions Saturday morning to set his record; when SS came out about 2 hours later, a headwind came up and Robin just missed the back-up.. Just so you know the full story |
