Could this be the way of the future? I never knew my turbo was so inefficient! This was a serious post at http://www.gmmodernmuscle.com/forums...er=asc&start=0
You can go there to see his drawing of his DEI invention and the 8 pages of hilarious reactions and remarks. Posted: Wed Nov 07, 2007 2:50 pm Post subject: Turbo Questions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . Ok. I didn't want to mention it but I was thinking about turbo charging my Vette. I got to thinking about it and how in efficient even turbos are (compressor efficiencies of about 80% at best). Since a turbo's function is to pressurize incoming air and force it into the upper motor, and turbos are driven by high pressure exhaust gas created from the combustion process, couldn't I just bypass the turbo altogether and route my headers back into the throttle bodies? Since I have CFI, I could balance the DEI (direct exhaust injection as I just coined it) by feeding one header into each throttle body. Yes, the charge air wouldn’t be that cold, but it would be under a hell of a lot more pressure. There are still a few things I need to work out: 1) How do I get the CFI aircleaner to fit in a way that hides this plumbing? 2) Does anyone make a V-band clamp that will bolt an exhaust header to a CFI throttle body? 3) What pinion angle should I use in my rear-end? I’m sure there will be a noticeable difference in torque output. What do you guys think? _________________ 1 of 2,430 Gold Metallic coupes built...... #00521--15.2-- 1/4 mile run

Jim,
I really don't think this is going to work, unless you can figure out a way to control the pressure in the intake manifold. Bob

wow, don't forget to install a tornado and boost that up to 300% efficiency

Nah! Bob I think the real problem is getting the correct pinion angle to handle the new found torque! Manifold pressure will take care of it's self. Jim

I'd pay good money to be around the first time that idiot tries to start it.

I can't believe that you guys have never heard about this engine configuration! It was first designed by an engineer at the ACME company back in the early 70's. I think the engineer's name was Wile E. Coyote, Suuuuuuuuuuuuuper Genious.
Thank you Jim Wahl for posting the link. I have been laughing about it all day. Here's your sign........ : ) Chris Cogan Kaizen Motorsports |
