Default Best Brakes for Mopar B Body Stocker?

I bought a fairly well known and fast 440 6pack Mopar Stocker recently and I am looking at possible upgrades I should make that would help performance. It currently has Wilwood disk brakes on the front and drums on the rear. Should I just buy new Wilwoods for the rear, replace front and rear with Strange, or leave it alone? Who makes the lightest? Least rolling resistance? What kind of performance difference would I see upgrading over what I have? Thanks in advance

Darrell,

You've got an awesome car. I was lucky enough to grow up watching Don Wann and then Chad Loge & Family run it for many years.

I have Aerospace Component brakes on my '64 car and all of my family's Hemi cars had Lamb Brakes. I highly recommend either as, in my experience, they have little to no drag. There may be other manufacturers whose brakes do the same, but those are the two I know.

That being said, I'm reminded of when I was a kid and we were running my Mom's '79 Volare all the time. Before NHRA allowed aftermarket brakes, that car had factory discs on the front and drums in the rear. Pushing it was AWFUL. Took 3 people to get it to roll 6". We put Wilwoods on it and couldn't believe how much easier it was to move. We were sure it was going to be .25 quicker. It ran the same as it did before the change.

Jared is correct, you have bought yourself one heck of a stocker. Congrats!!! Lamb are the best brakes money can buy, and they are expensive. Mark Williams also has some very nice brakes. As far as Aerospace, I have heard enough horror stories about their brakes to last me a lifetime. I wouldn’t put them on my pit bike.

Dumbo has M/W that came with the car. The Cuda has Aero Space and both roll real well.
If your car doesn’t roll easy check the Toe on the front and rear. While your back there check pinion angle. The Private Lee would twist the 8 3/4 tubes so bad the paint would pop off the tubes and change the angle.

I’ve got Asrospace on my bracket car and my stocker. With dual calipers on the rear. If your Aerospace equipt car is not rolling easy. First check that the calipers are centered on the rotors and the rotors are not warped. Can’t tell you how many I’ve seen where people say they drag. And they are not centered as per the instructions. Or the rotors have a ton of passes on them and are warped. If they are centered, rebuild the calipers with new seals. I have the opposite problem. Mine retract too easy. I had to put 2lb residual back pressure valves in my car. . And my master is way higher than the calipers.

Are you worried about rolling or stopping? Most all the tracks I’ve been to have very ample room to stop, almost could coast to the turn off. Of course drums aren’t as pretty as disc brakes.

If you are using drum brakes on the rear check the backing plate for stretched holes. It won’t make it roll any easier but it will make safe to race. The backing plate allows the shoes to hold the car on the starting line.

It stops and holds fine now. I'm just looking at what could be done to find some et. I would like to be more competitive with those newer corvettes around here if that's possible.
