Default Was/Is 1972 Mustang Ram Air Legal?

I'm seeing pictures lately of 72 Mustang 351CJ and 351HO with ram air so I guess it's legal now for NHRA.

But per what I read, originally the 72 Mustang only had Ram Air for the 351-2v due to smog and some data they faked or something. So, no Ram Air on the 351CJ or 351HO.

I've also read that some early 72 351CJ had ram air but only to mid year.
Seems that would make ram air NHRA legal for 72 351CJ from 1972 right up to today.
Is that true?

I've also read that the midyear 72 351HO did NOT have Ram Air so was it illegal in NHRA back then, and just legal recently?

Getting harder to reach back into the past, but thats when I grew up.
