Default National Open in Colorado

A friend asked me to post this.
Western Colorado Dragway near Grand Junction is having a National Open 20-22 June.

Easy to get to from either Hwy 50 or Interstate 70..
Paved pits, running water, great track prep, and the weather should be fantastic.
Let us know if you would like pictures of the facility. Local racers have put in a lot of work to make it a nice facility here in Western Colorado.

I am happy for Western Colorado Dragway and the racers located in this part of the country. But its 1000+ miles from me and other northern California racers. Famoso has many open weekends on their 2025 schedule. I don't understand why NHRA can't schedule another National Open there which is much more centrally located for most Division 7 racers.

Darin,

I hear you brother but I’ve never understood how we schedule Famoso. I love the facility and staff but our Divisional double is scheduled in the heat when not only are we melting but the starting line turns to grease relegating afternoon runs to pedal fests! I long for events like an open scheduled early in the year where we could utilize it to its full potential. Imagine Division 7 hosting an event where we actually had a chance for a record run. Does anyone recall when we had a pre-season event there that even attracted pro teams? I don’t get it what gives???

I’d rather Famoso not be so hot for the double but I’m thankful we at least have it. We should look at Redding as another option too.

Getting the Sonoma Double back would be nice, but feels like that’s wishful thinking.

Grand Junction sounds awesome but a little too far away for an Open, as Darin stated.

WCDR is at 4800ft. Corrected air in June can vary from 6000 - 7000 ft.
Temperature in June, 80s to low 90s during the day and drops mid 70s at night.

We really need Sonoma back, there has to be some type of compromise with that track and NHRA. It?s such a great track and year round, they are having bracket races how can we not make this happen. I hope someone is listening!!!
