I'll measure one this weekend, but I'm thinking 12-bolt pinion shims might be a near perfect fit.

Now that I think more about it it was probably 12 bolt pinion shims you might get by with one or may have to stack them--- just remember consider tooth engagement between the cam and dist. gears--FED 387

Wow, that's a lot of ideas!

Actually, if you look back at my previous post you'll see I mentioned that I already have a shim (.030") in there, and yes it's one of these nylon shims. Seems like it should work fine.

Really enjoying this build! Thank you for doing such a fine job of detailing everything. I also have a 66 and your build is making me consider going a different direction with it. Thank you again and keep up the good work!

On a earlier post about getting the right intake gasket thickness so everything lines up, I just make my own out of gasket material using a regular available gasket as a template. I then use anti-seize compound as a dealer , also can remove intake and reinstall with same gasket.

There's some good ideas there, Will. The gaskets I'll be using are meant to be cut-to-fit, as someone here suggested a while back. It turns out they fit the ports almost perfectly. But they have large elongated bolt holes, I presume to make them compatible with different port locations. I use gasket cement around the water passages only to glue them to the heads so they won't move while I drop the manifold on. I've been leaving the manifold side dry, but using some anti-seize on that side sounds good, I think I'll try that next time.
