Ruth,
You are to friggin funny! As far as the whole stop thing goes, I know when I was going 7:50 in my dragster bracket racing, I hated to run a 9-10 sec. car because it was so hard to judge the line (could be because I have no talent). I would think that if you made the stop come on around the 1000' mark, it could really screw with people, however I have no idea how consistent it would be because I never tried it. Sounds good on paper though. |

Ask Bob Keister from Div 1, from what I understand he runs 9.90's at like 104 mph....
Bob has a really cool looking wagon, and is one great guy, I really miss being up in N.J. at times.

Just my .02... I ran 8.90 @ 154 mph with stop on @ .30 out then off @ .750-.1050, rpm on stop was 4300 rpm (any lower and there is not enough in the timer) and I shift on rpm. If that is your set up do not worry about big mph cars, they are not judging you very easy coming on @ 20-25 mph difference and your picture @ the top end will usually be the same. Good luck!

I agree you need to give it 4300 or more rpm on the stop. Our small block setup worked well stopping a little further out .3 or so, At 150 I agree it is as hard for the high mph cars to judge the stripe as it is for the slower car to judge them. You have to be consistent and once you get a setup don't change the RPM or first timer. Only adjust the second timer, this will let you learn the weather change easier. If you run a linkage stop be sure to have a solid pedal stop or you will stress the cable. If you do anything involving the carb, pedal or linkage remember to re-check the stop rpm. also remember to pull the chip when doing this. Don't ask how I know that. Then kick butt.

you guys are too funny.....Ruth....you better get that car apart....so you have something to do....when you have too much time....it gets scary....
my 2 cents on the dragster....its all about accelerating off the stop....so turn it on early and shift on RPM....turn up the stop RPM till you have more time than the stop takes to move....(in bad weather)...use an electric Dedenbear if you can.......lighten your car as much as possible....its ok to beat up on all S/C competitors...as I won't be there.... When the thing runs really consistent and you're winning.....change everything to try and go 2 MPH faster...JK CBS |

oh yea ....to that clown....that I'm sure has never driven an 8.90 or 9.90 car....much less raced one....
after the stocker or super stocker comes down from the wheelie.....you can eat a sandwich and wave to you in the stands...while you're waiting for the finish line....in a good 8.90 or 9.90 car....your hanging on and paying attention...our dragster went faster in the 1/8 than our super stocker will go in the quarter.....and that was on the stop....over 3 seconds....those cars are fun to drive....and the politics are nill..everybody helps everybody else....you can tell anybody anything because its almost all driver.....while the stock and super stock guys are wrenching between rounds...we are on the golf carts looking for food and beer........plus its the most economical way to race....(not exactly in our case) .........so don't knock it till you try it.... cbs.... |
