Hey Todd, I hate to give up my age but I went to several of the old Eastex modified meets and saw Lee as well as Pete Smith, Raymond Martin, Sam Cunningham, Crawford Benham, Earl from the Wop Shop, David Nickens, Dennis Faerman, Eddie Conrad and many many more. You did indeed miss the good old days. Wayne

Wayne,
Long time, no hear. I recognized all those names except Sam Cunningham. What did he drive? Of course you have to add to this list Jeff Linenger, Bear Barilleaux, Lindley Isonhood, George Owens, Weldon Bailey, Ronnie Young and who could forget Willis Ragsdales' B/SR everytime that he yanked a gear. Hey, late congrats on class win at No Problem!! |

Hate to hi-jack this thread, but Todd do you remember Robert "Speedy" Hudson? Big guy, raced around the area with the yellow and black Nova. I heard he passed away yesterday. It's on www.bracketrash.com and www.housonarearacing.com.

Bobby,
Yea, I remember him. A yellow '66 Nova called the "Liberator" that had the rear fenderwells cut out for the tires.. He was a big boy who footbraked this car and usually was ALWAYS in the money. I beat him one night but they called for a re-run and he returned the favor. RIP Speedy. Last edited by Todd Bailey; 04-03-2009 at 11:32 AM. Reason: Mispelled word |

Sam Cunningham was a guy from the Port Arthur area and race a 61 or 62 vette that had a straight axle that actually moved back when he launched. It was wild and legal in those days, but plenty fast. He was known for coming up with different ideas. Wayne RIP Speedy, the nova was built by Joey Richards a long time racer from the old Houston track in League City.
