Does the AODE have a lock-up converter? I used to run the original AOD in my car. It had the two piece input shaft that actually locked up 1 to 1 like a stick car in drive. It really killed the car on the 2-3 shift though.
If you switch to a C-4, make sure you get a full roller/race version with a low gear set. I went from the AOD to a street/strip C4 with very little difference. Same brand of converter (PTC). More top end rpm and I believe about 2 mph. Do you know anyone you could borrow a set of 28" tires from? I would try them too.
