I've been wondering about this too, amid the rumors, and I will still say the glass is half full, not half empty. No where, that I have read, says we are getting phased out yet. It just easier for them to do.
I dont think you can have a drag race (Nat'l Event) without Stock and SuperStock. It isnt dead yet, so flame away.

fuel check and teardowns into consideration wouldn't you rather run TS/TD down the track than us pesky, whinny S/SSers if you were NHRA.Much less staff and labor intensive.

[QUOTE=Kenny Wigington;
I dont think you can have a drag race (Nat'l Event) without Stock and SuperStock. [/QUOTE] This is not a flame but dont kid yourself. Do you REALLY think spectators come to watch stock and S/S? As much as I love them Im afraid they are a dying breed because of reasons stated many times before. IF and thats a very large IF they were to drop catagories and replace them with T/D and T/S I think it would be the .90 classes first. NHRA is looking for a SHOW and something eaiser to police. Stock and S/S is a pain for them to police and keep up with (AHFS, specs, weightm fuel check, etc) The .90 classes are not a show to the general spectator and all of the explainning to them by the announcers about WHY they start, stop, and go again will never change that. The spectators like the heads up races, speeds, the noise, and even the exlposions. Everyone else is just filler. Last edited by X-TECH MAN; 08-09-2009 at 07:34 PM. |

Billy Meyer was 20 years ahead of his time with the T/S and all .90 racing.
I love S/SS too, but it is a dying breed and aggravating to police. Chip Johnson |

Lyn is right.
Dave it is dying though. No new blood coming into the S/SS ranks. Most new comers come into the super classes then work up to T/S-T/D. Truth. Chip |

Its a tough sell to get outside racers into S/SS. At 22, I'm a rare exception but for the most part there aren't alot of new racers in the classes regardless of age. I bought my car about a year ago and have had a lot of fun running the class and have met a bunch of great people. I decided to go the stocker route because it was something dad had always kind of wanted to do but never did it and I thought it would be cheaper than getting into a 4-link dragster (not really sure what I was thinking there, lol). With entry fees and payouts what they are for divisionals and nationals, and the dwindling contingencies, it makes it even tougher. Atleast with a super class car you have the option to run local and big money bracket races.

I thought TS/TD were already National classes?
Didn't ND list them in the 4- 5 category winners last week? I'm surprised nobody commented on it then.

They aren't at National events yet but they are at most divisionals now.
Not to be contrary (not me!) but I would welcome them at Nationals IF they replaced S/G and S/C. No bog, dial in racing is something the fans can understand and we (S & S/S) might watch. Mid to high 6 second, 200 MPH + cars could be interesting. S/G and S/C, throw away your throttle stops and go racing.
