Thanks everyone for that info....I was told that the only dif between the 327/250 motor and the 327/300 motor was the 300 version ran a Carter 4bbl vs. a 4GC Rochester on the 250 hp?? Any other differences in these 2 motors, heads or anything? Again, thank you. WJ

In 1965 the 300 HP had 1.95 intake valves vs 1.72 intake valves for the 250 HP.

I origionally built my 2dr 1965 300 Deluxe for O/S in the mid 70's. Back the 65 models were prefered because the 64 year cars only had a 10 bolt rears and the 65 year the 12 bolts were available. If Dwight Southerland see this thread he knows these combos inside out.

The '64 327/250 combo uses the 283 head while the 327/300 uses the 1.94/1.5 large valve heads (461, 462, etc.). In '65, the only difference in the combos was the 4GC for the 250 HP and Carter for the 300 HP. Intake manifolds were different for Stockers.

So, both 250 and 300hp 327 versions of the Chevelle used the bigger valve cyl. heads in 1965? BTW, would you happen to know the dif in cfm ratings between that 300hp Carter and the 250hp 4GC?? Is it substantial or marginal? Thanks Jerry. WJ

In '64, the 327 250 hp.had the #520 or the 896 heads, and the Rochester 4GC with the small intake manifold. The 300 horse 327 had the same short block, cam, and had #461 heads and the 459 intake with the AFB. The carb looks almost identical to the rear carb on a 409.In '65, the 327 250 was equipped with the #461 heads. It had the same smll intake, and a 4GC with a Powerglide, and a WCFB if a stick. The 300/327 had the 459 intake and the AFB.The L-79 327/350 engine came out then, and was an option in the Chevelle and the Nova. It would have been possible to order out a '65 2 door 300 series wagon with the 327/350 engine and a 4 speed. How many of those do you think were made?

My first run down the 1/4 mile was behind the wheel of a 64 chevelle 2 dr wagon 327 and it probably won't be a big surprise to most that it was a 4 speed. 1971 or 72 at lebanon valley. The neighbor and friend that started me going to the drags when i was 13 or 14 had 2 of those 2 dr wagons, both 64's.
