It does look like it is 8" from end to end. Wonder why it doesn't read like that? Probably so when there was a complaint, they had a margin of error.

travis used it in the 1970's to measure bore & stroke... LOL
jack current use is to measure how far we will take it up the a#%& before we revolt

Probably used for a book mark as well for the rule book . Seems like the rule book was close to that length

It's a go/no-go gauge. I you exceed the measurement you are a "Pro". If you fail to measure up, you're a "Sportsman." If you don't register at all, you are an "Official".
