Most of the bogus classes are in SS. Not Stock.

Cool Re: Class Contingency

The fact remains that there are to many classes. I dont care if there were 50 or 51 classes back in the 70's. That was to many back then also and that is when I ran in NHRA S/S. Even back before the massive use of trans brakes I found very little difference between the 4 speed (Non Cluthless) and the P/G combo I ran. Probably even less in the higher classes. The classes should be cut in half. Combine the stick vs auto. Use a slight wt break if necessary to even out the lower HP to wt. combos. Use one lb breaks in stock. Most are there already in S/S.....finish S/S up in the higher classes and the GT classes. It hasen't hurt the S/S cars. There are way to many singles and handicap start races because of this and thats why some are calling it just another bracket race. Remenber when class usually took around 4 or 5 rounds to win class and you had to win class to run the eliminator ! Its bracket racing pure and simple as it is today. No wonder there are no spectators in the stands and interest from the manufacturers and TV people. Some will never get it. Your to interested in a "Cash Cow" to pay for your entry and travel expense. You might as well build a bracket 1 car and save the travel expense. Your bottom line will thank you for it.

I do think there are way too many SS classes, and many belong in Comp. However, the cut NHRA take and the minimum payout is more of a problem with the sponsors I have talked to. And, anymore, automatic cars are pretty much just as fast as the sticks. I don't see why they could not be combined.

Here's an interesting thought. The sponsors say they don't get a bang for their advertising
buck to continue paying us.When a business advertises on a billboard, newspaper, bus,
Internet, etc. they don't get it for free. They have to pay.
Here come us racing suckers and stick their "advertising" on both sides of our cars
and we give them FREE advertising every time the car comes out of the box.If you have an open trailer they get rolling advertising.
Why shouldn't we be paid for doing their advertising? All these companies get a tax write off for advertising.
One solution is to take the decals off the cars. When and if I repaint the car I'll only have a few decals put back on.
OK Jack,I guess I'm wrong again?

Of coarse Graham Light is gonna want class money.
If there is no pay for class thats less money foe NHRA
If he lets them out of paying class its less for NHRA budget.

The solution for the people with the oddball class cars that like to single for a class win is build 2 of the same car. Then you run against your own car (with the wife friend or hired driver) You will not need to worry about getting thrown into the combined class and do not have to go .50 under to win.

Ed, you hit on a great idea. Get magnetic or removable decals, when you run "class", no decals. Re apply decals for the race or the only time you get paid contingency.
