I'm with Alan & Larry here. If you have a foot braked eleven or twelve second car it probably isn't as much of an issue. If it's too slick to learn anything I'm not interested in going.

A racer should never have to set up his race car for a unsafe track.I have heard this from the decision makers of the track well my bracket race cars don't have a problem with the track wow talk about short sight nesses , the daily bracket car does not remotely make the HP that the higher HP class cars does , . Also while I am on my soap box I am really amazed that the rules are always getting to the racer to update the belts , and all kinds of safety issues on our cars which I kind of of agree with but as the decision makers are telling us to do this there track worker are using the same scrapper]they they use 30 years ago and have not advanced with their ability to prep the track safely wow . Use the sticky stuff that works "dud if you don't you will see less and less race cars showing to race a very simple fact."

Ed, I have blown the tires off of an 11 second stick car at a division race, and had them spin at every gear change.

Alan, I said "foot brake" car. As in auto trans. And, yes it can be too slick for those too. But, they can hook on tracks the faster cars can not. I've gone up to watch the Stockers to get idea about the track. Looks OK, only to find it isn't for many SS cars. Mine is at Eastexas Race Cars right mow getting back halved. Hopefully I will have fewer problem next year. Gave up on 10.5" tires. A soft converter like bracket cars run would have been cheaper. Lol

Alan , I don't think we disagree over much, but the point I was making is that tracks have bottom lines too.
Speedworld does a great job with track prep...Much better than Firebird, IMHO.
But if I have a nostalgia race with a bunch of old cars/ drivers having fun, and a FEW S/SS combo cars expected, I can't ask for anything extra.
I can't go to the race director and say "How about a little extra glue? Don Kennedy and 2-3 other SS' ers might show up."
Now ,with 60-70 cars like at BG,...that's a different story.
And no, I I'd never sacrifice quality in my converters because of parts cost...
But, if it got to where I could only make $100 a converter, I'd probably have to switch gears and crank out a bunch of cheapie re-mans to make a living.

Jacko, We'll see how good I am if I can get Ol' Kennedy on the right page here..

Markie - You make more than a hundred on a converter ? I've got customers who if given the chance would have me making only a hundred on a whole car ...............

The absolute reason most" Higher HP Super Stock cars don't show up at a local race is very simple "Lack of Track Prep".

I have seen the the track prep at most tracks when they have test and tune and charge us $60 to a hundred dollars and absolute ZERO track prep so then they wonder why no one is showing up duh prep the track all the way> The racers will come no prep, no racers, no money for the track,

so blame the racers all you want we won't show up unless the track is prepped both lanes and all the way case closed

I will never sacrifice my safety and my race car to make a run down a unsafe track due to lack of preparation by the track ."" The track decision makers require me to have the latest safety equipment and now I am requiring the track to have the latest equipment to make a safe track it goes both ways""

I have the habit of looking over the track before I run , silly me as an example the last test and tune at Vegas I paid $100 to test , so we get there early to look over track we actually got there before the track personnel , they did absolutely nothing to the track turned on the tree and put water in the burn out box ,that is it they only had two workers on the line the starter and the person putting the water in the box ??? . I can tell when the track has been prepped all the way so don't tell me the track is prepped when I know it was not , don't tell me track is prepped when only the first 30 to 40 feet has glue on it we know so prep the track the racers will come , don't prep the track then no one will show up to race

fyi a car who leaves soft off the line is not a test for good track prep example super comp, not sure why they even do a burn out example a low hp clutch car can slip the clutch to get down the track example a low hp bracket car can get off the line, but a high Hp car example Stocker, Super Stocker, Comp car or car who need to dead hook will spin . of course there are ways to get the car down the track by adjustment but they are only a band aid for a bad track prep
