Now if it was "claim the race before you tech", then it would be perfectly acceptable. Yep, you have a bad day and go out 1st round then that's not a big payday on points. But with the current system, if I travel the continent, I can have many bad days and still come out ahead because I pick the gory days and throw out the bad days. If your a great racer, a truly great racer, you should have no problem in claiming a race before, not after.
Kinda like speed dating instead of a single blind date...

What is wrong with the current system?? You make it seem like you can go to 10 races, lose 1st round at every one and still be world champ. I know you are not a rookie to this sport Jeff so you have seen points totals and know how hard it is to win a champoinship. You can win a champoinship with out leaving your division, all you have to do is be a bad ***! Not complain about HP ratings, DP, CJ's, points systems, light weight windows. Cut a light and drive the finish line like a mofo. I'm sure Peter Biondo is real angry that a 1971 chevy got 3 HP taken off of it. LoL!!!

I understand what you are saying, you select which races you are claming points at before the race, not improving points totals like the current system. I just don't see anything wrong with the current system. I am just saying just race, quit all the complaining.

Outside of one race at her home track, and one trip to Denver , Jackie won the championship in one time zone . With only one out of division race , which didn't end up counting anyway. Thats a pretty good endorsement for the current system being fair.

Taking out the "pure luck" factor, if anybody would want to ever seriously chase the points then they are practically forced into chasing them all over the continent, all the while not getting even one extra point for excelling in performance.
Currently, those select few who have the ability to making a life out of chasing points have the added luxury of claiming their best races for the points fund. I have to admit, I would love such a pass that I could throw out my bad days. But just as in life, I believe we have the bad days and the best days to deal with.
While I agree that every racer out there has a chance of beating the best and winning a few National & Divisional events, If we had a poll, I gaurantee that the list would be pretty short on racers that feel they have a slim chance in hell on ever being a world champion. And it's only because of the logistics in roaming the continent.
Now if the rules changed to reflect points for excelling and the points were tallied intra-divisionally (and I don't know how that would work, somebody smarter than Don could figure that out), I would be one to chase after a championship. Presently, I have no desire as I know I can't win a championship given my family and work that keeps me grounded.

I'm all ears as to why the current system is so great...

Not taking anything away from her, but statistically, her championship is an anomaly. And I hope she repeats it in 2012!

We are not complaining just trying to make a change that would benefit 90% of all racers who may or may not want to win the Championship , right now the present format only benefits about 10% of the racers who would like to chase points and does not make sense

Giving points for records and qualifying would be the best way. The guys that are great bracket racers that are able to tour the country can still act as blockers at the races they don't claim. The only way to take away that advantage is to limit the number of races one can attend and no one wants that. Points for national records, class wins and qualifying is the way to even it out. Give the perfomanced oriented people a shot.
