I'm sure they will have 16 Top Fuel,16 Funny Car,and 16 Pro Stock.

As long as they have that, they have a "show".

Cool Re: What has happened to the Pro Car Counts?

How many of the pro's would go back to sportsman racing if they lost their paying jobs? I guess only a handful love it enough to do it as a hobby like most of us.

From everything I've heard, there will be an honest sixteen teams in each class touring for the entire series so things are fine for 2012.

My personal opinion? The NHRA needs no more than sixteen...or for that matter, about twelve...cars per class to present the show within the required time frame. Based on the propensity for oildowns and the resulting down time, twenty cars in a class is almost too many nowadays. They're shooting for a two-hour qualifying show (per session) and research proves that's about as long as folks will stay if they're entertained. Eliminations can be no longer than five hours since most fans will leave before that period elapses. (We've all seen the modern-day trend of spectators leaving before the final rounds on Sunday afternoon).

There's a reason all other eliminators are down to eight cars on Sunday, kids.

You need to quit quizzing us with these queer questions and focus on the quality of quarter mile qualifying with fields that aren't quite full.

That potential may quickly cause quiet queasiness or even quarrels within the upper quadrant of NHRA!

You can quote me on that!

Bret,
Your post makes sense but I would want more than 16 teams in every category. It's like flying with a skeleton crew when there are only 16 teams showing up.

Myron,
I have no qualms with your post and will quickly add it to the queue just as soon as I finish my quiche.
