It could be Rally green, color settings on a monitor, combined with fluorescent lighting can make colors look funny. But it looks just like one I was going to buy and it was Fathom green.

They made just over 20,000 69 Z28 camaro's . Crossram intakes and headers could be ordered from the factory but came in the trunk and were dealer installed but not many were ordered that way. They could also be ordered over the parts counter. 4 wheel disc brakes could also be ordered from factory but only a handfull of cars were equiped as such. Cowl induction hoods were not installed or available until January of 69 and were fisrt seen on the Copo 427 cars. It was still a option on Z28s and SS cars after that point but was standard equipment on Copo cars. Quite a few Z28s made prior to May 69 had chambered exhaust but were replaced with regular exhaust as they prone to getting tickets for excessive noise. Many came with radio delete and then had a jobber radio installed at the dealership as they was a better profit margine that way. The after market has flooded the market with reproduction crossrams and chambered exhaust and 4 wheel disc brake setups. All Z28s from 67 to 69 came with 4spds and 12 bolt rear diffs and front power disc brakes. I have a 69 Z28 RS with a
cowl hood and 20000 original miles. |

One of the reasons that the Z/28 was very popular was the insurance factor. There were plenty of 396, 375's around but you couldn't get insurance. Your insurance payments would be more then the cars. I think it was 25 years old got the discounts, so if you were younger then that, got screwed by the insurance companies. The Z/28 came in at less then 10 lbs per advertised HP (290 HP, shipping weight 3218), it flew under the insurance radar. Also, it wasn't a model, it was an option, so it wasn't in the vin number.

Cowl induction hoods were available in December 1968. They were available after April 1969 on any four-barrel equipped Camaro. Lots of pace car painted replicas were built with 255 hp 350s and the ZL2 hood, but were not SS packaged. The base motor on the SS was the 300hp 350.

I agree with earlier posters that it is not real rare, but is desireable. If is indeed rally green it is rarer than the darker fanthom green. I have had many early Z/28s and in todays market, a good 69 Z/28 has value. The crossram did not come in the trunk, as the headers on the 67-8 Z/28, it was ordered over the counter for installation. I had a 68 and a 69 with crossrams, so I have researched the crossram facts fairly well. I also had a first week of April built 69 Z/28 that was ordered in late February and the ZL-2 cowl induction hood was deleted by the factory as unavailable. Many cars are being "built" today, so beware as almost anything is possible.
