Default Re: Things you were bounced for in the olden days when there

Since all the "Old" tech men are gone I'll tell all.
Tossed back in the old NHRA days. Rear spoiler off a 69 Z-28. Ran more MPH that way.
They missed the drum brakes on the front that were about 14 lbs per side less weight than the discs. They also missed the door crash bars that took weight out. So I put the spoiler back on. I think they found the obvious and quit looking.
Modern times: Tossed for 1/4 in too much variation in wheel base. (Saved my A**, too--front strut failing)
Back in the old IHRA days they missed the 200 lbs of sand I had bagged up under the back seat of the Z-28. Couldn't understand why a car without a roll bar weighed so much. Told them it was the crash bars they put in the 69's doors. Glad they didn't see the 4 of us putting the seat in or they to sit on it..
It was common place to qualify light in Modified and put SBC valve covers filled with lead (approx 44 lbs ea) in the floorboard. Harold even opend the door and looked at them once. We even did the heavy spare tire deal, too, Funny how heavy that solid push bar was, too. One time at Hallsville they had us line up behind the scales and weigh before the runs, then after. Interesting how our car gained weight without going to the pits and under the watchful eye of two of Div 4 best.. I'm not telling on that one! I remember a female that ran Comp that got caught with some heavy driving pants. I think they got heavy when she got in the tow truck after the run, before the scales. The joke, or truth, ?? was that Wesley ask her for her pants... LOL!
See Art you weren't the only one that was creative. You just got caught!!
OK, Dwight... Let's hear about yours. I bet you have 2 pages worth...
