Equally noteworthy of the times is at “nhra.com” there is (or was) an ad from that vulgarian of vulgarians, Rich Christensen: Doing his best to promote more automotive pornography with some bit of nonsense called “Won & Done”.

Related to a decline in automotive interest would be aeronautical. The trend there seems about the same:

One paragraph in that story:

“One reason there are fewer pilots is because the mood in our country has changed. There is more of a tendency today for people to be needy and dependent and risk-averse. That is not a good demographic for flight training or for flying.”

It also doesn’t help when fathers teach their children about risk with lessons such as this:

I think I’m going to start drinking. Very, very heavily.
