So, anyway...back to the topic at hand, but slightly away from it...
The NHRA rulebook states that only cars equipped with an exhaust requiring a tether must adhere to the rule next year. What about motorcycles? I noticed a PSM racer lost part of it's exhaust well past half track during qualifying last week at the U.S. Nats. Just wondering. Ivan. |

I can see where these teathers are needed on some cars, then ones where the collector is hanging off of the collector, with no other support. I think these people need teathers. When we built my car, when it came to headers and collectors, we have a clamp around the collector or muffler which bolts to the frame. Adding a teather to my car is redundant. It is not going to provide any more safety. I wonder what will happen when a collector comes off, and is teathered on a car like a super comp dragster, and now it is swinging around in the air as the car is going down the strip. All the pictures of the above, I agree need teathers, if fact I thing they need to be double teathered, to make sure they stay on. This is only two hundred dollars, but here we go again, where some one build something to be light and gain a advantage, and we all have to pay. Steve Williams S/G

It would seem to me that as 90% + of headers are under chassis and if a collector falls off, it pretty much just slides down the track. The obvious offender would be down swept dragster headers that exit in front of the slicks. Aren't we all being punished for a design that doesn't apply to most. Why not just specify that a tether is required if the collector protrudes out in front of the tire. Not going to win this argument but as a header fabricator who is going to have to suffer with this change, I'm thinking that this is a knee jerk response to an isolated incident.

1320 , not to bust anyone's balls my 2008 CJ ran 8.78@155 at 3510 lbs at the atco race in april 2013 . But to tell the truth Holbrooks CJ is the fastest in the country . That car can run 8.50 in east coast air at 3500lbs

I reckon ya got it right, except for the fact that it's an insurance 'Knee jerk' reaction, I think it comes from a cry-baby law suit that they cant handle. ie , gotta pay. Let's face the facts, NHRA is broke and has been for the last 6-7 years. ( Bruce, chime in if ya want) ! What do ya do ? Ya gotta cut cost's and ya liabilities. MR. Lawyer says there is a proven case for tethers on headers cause ONE person complained and made some quick cash and that set's the precedent, game over !
