Side clearance is not a factor in bleed off, I have build piston guided rod engines with .115 side clearance and no issues. Its bearing clearance which regulates the amount of oil bleeding out between the rods. Jake Stelter engine won Drag week 2 years in a row had some issues and was correct with a pan and pump.
