Did it ever work, or is this a new install? The breaker in the shop must be the correct size determined by what the id tag on the motor says. Then the breaker on the pole must be larger. Then the wire must be large enough for the breaker. Perhaps the first thing to check would be to make certain all connecrions are clean and tight.

I've had it for 7 years worked like a champ until recently.

If it has run for seven years, then other than checking for loose connections, then more than likely the start capacitor has gotten weak.
