This obviously explains the the appeal of N vs M, but I also see many cars classed into the heavier class. Is this just because of the ability to add weight where needed? I know many reclass to avoid a heads-up. What other subtlety of classing a car am I missing? I would assume most cars could get to the minimum in their natural class fairly easily, so I guess there must be more reasons to run outside of natural class, either heavier or lighter.

Some combos don't mind carrying the weight and others don't like it at all.

Rick, If one is just getting his feet wet, or doesn't to put his car on kill, or just doesn't want to invest in a top shelf piece, it's advisable to be able to tech into any one of all 3 classes that you can run in.
Yes, that would include having the safety items required for M, if one can go there.

One advantage to running the lighter class is less weight to haul around from track to track.

Some indexes will favor a .05 second advantage over an index right next to it as well.

However, there is no advantage between L, M, and N.
They are all .15 sec. apart.

There is between J and K
