If NHRA starts rounding the numbers, then NHRA will be changing the shipping weight. If the number is 8.4999999 it should be 8.49, just use the first two places to the right of the decimal point. Its so easy even a hillbilly can do it.

Larry -
Except that the factors on the Class Guide sheets are rounded now. It's just that the odd cases where the number is on the break is it a concern. Also, I have class guide sheets for 1969 Chevrolet back to 2002 and they are all 8.50 for that combination.

I'm building the 396/375 to run B with mine, the way I see the sheets the 427/425 is natural A. 427 would be one heavy old ride in B

The 8.49 was recently brought to NHRA's attention hence the change. I would assume NHRA rounds down even if its 8.499 like they do on class weight ex. 3449 is 3445. The rule book doesn't seem to cover how weights and indexes are rounded though except for adding/taking away HP and that is rounded up ex 2.15 is 3.

We can't sneak anything past you guys on here!

Yes, I was running a 69 chevelle with a 427/425 combo, with aftermarket heads rated at 435 hp. The car is owned by Will Carrell out of Oklahoma and he's done an awesome job building this combo. Regardless of the head, the factor is still done with the advertised hp (425).

The shipping weight is 3611. When doing the math,

3611/425 = 8.496....hence the dilemma. I did the math and Will brought it to NHRA's attention that it should be a natural A car, similar to what Larry mentioned above. Pat was in agreement that the excel sheet was incorrectly rounding the factor up. He adjusted the excel sheet this week prior to us entering the national event on Thursday. We did not enter the class until the sheetvwas changed online.

This was all done because AA at a minimum of 3430 is much more attractive than C at 4000+ lbs. Not to mention that it is much more safe.

If anyone would like to discuss this, PM me and l will give you my phone number.

Also for the record, the car is really cool and wheelie fun to drive.

Austin, congratulations to both you and Will, and thank you! Good luck racing that car.

By no means was I complaining, questioning, or saying you did anything wrong, Austin. You got them to move that combination to a natural A combination, finally, and I'm glad you did. Thanks again.

No problem, just explaining the process we went through for everyone. Like I said, we didn't turn the tech card in until it was fully changed online, even after getting a verbal confirmation.

Also, I will be back in the duster soon enough, we just had an issue come up with that car.

You know you've done something when Jason line looks at the car and says "What combo runs AA in a chevelle?"
