Thanks for the comments Tim - and no, I'm not trying to make sense out what or why NHRA does/doesn't do what they do. I don't have that kind of time to waste...

It was suggested to me however that if there is feedback and input from racers that we would like this changed, then they would look at their system limitations and 'perhaps' try to address them. I'm just trying to gather some input from this group in order to go back to the DD and see what happens.

Good question and it speaks to what I think is part of the issue with the approach to combined points. No, there is nothing in the entry system that prioritizes a racer's ability to enter because they have more grade points than what it takes to get in. The system opens for entries based on the date and time for the 1st time for any/all racers who have 8 grade points. If you do, it is first come, first served to enter.

That means that earning more than 8 grade points in any single category does not help you enter a National Event because you don't need them to enter the 1st car you want to drive and you can't use anything in surplus of 8 for a 2nd car.
