As I said, I don't know the man. I'm sure he's a great guy to have a beer with after hours..But what does that have to do with the subject matter?
In case some missed it, this car and driver has been involved in several heads up runs in the last few years..Some with great drivers with good engines, that were in contention for National and Divisional championships. He was able to run away from most of them.
Now the driver can say he didn't put those gaskets on the engine, and the engine can say he didn't do it. The fact remains. Someone did it and it's no accident.

I'm really surprised at the nonchalant attitude of some here. This kind of thing would have been looked at quite differently under Farmer, Greg X, and Marty Barrett.

This saga is not going away yet, nor should it.

BTW, S... I think you ought to recheck your math.
I was referring to 0.050 off the deck of the head. According to my math, .018 from the gasket is about 0.8 of point of compression. Splitting hairs maybe, but if the clearance infraction is less than than that, then you get in the neighborhood of 1/2 point of compression.

I'm not being nonchalant about it. Seems like a strange place to cheat since it's so easily checked. I don't see it.

He had the wrong gasket, and in my view it's not worth all the brouhaha. Would seem to me that the block and heads got machined when the motor got freshened and nobody checked the cc's. I could be wrong, and that's fine, but again it seems a strange way to cheat if that was objective.

Yes his head gaskets were too thick by .014 this weekend but you are making it sound like it's been in his car for many years .And you don't know that so why accuse him? I'm sure the NHRA is not going to let him slide but you want to take him to the woodshed .

Besides, how many heads up runs does anyone see in eliminations? .
Jacko, I was responding to SB here when he said heads up races weren't common.
I didn't accuse anyone of breaking the rules. NHRA did.. All I said was there was and is a vested interest in how fast that car goes, in a really popular class lately.
I know what I see, and that car was fast last year and it was fast the other day too.
You guys can think whatever you want.
BTW , I've heard reports of .014 and up to .023 on the gasket. Nobody said anything about head cc's to me.
