Larry Hill, that is what I have always been told but lets be honest, how many times does this happen. AFTER the finish line it is ok, there are no infractions after the finish line. You can hit the wall, go off end of track, cross line, etc. I am sure this is at the Director's discretion.
If we look at this from another view, James Perrone is correct in that it should have been a rerun due to BOTH lanes incorrect. In that instance a rerun would declare Troy the winner as Casey was broke and could not make the call. Plain and simple. I personally don't care who is in the other lane. I have to do my job, he or she has to do theirs. I feel the correct call was made. With that, I do not have a dog in the fight nor do I even have a "class" car anymore. Probably never will again. |

Except that the wreck was not the infraction he was punished for. It just made it easier for them to apply the punishment for the infraction that was committed. Not apples to apples with my comment. Once again....it is ALL at the Race Director's discretion.

Yes, I could have headed this thread with something other than what I did. However, I not only wanted to get everyone's attention but was hoping Troy would give his thoughts on the situation.
With that said, I would ask if anyone here is familiar with the "first or worst" violation with regards to a competition run? The first problem was both drivers not checking their dials. The second and only real violation was Troy breaking out by .5 because he failed to check his dial. Casey did nothing but fail to check his dial. The computer gave him the win. He didn't break out, cross the center line, hit the guard rail, oil down the track or anything. He broke his engine and pulled over. He did everything else as the rule book tells him to do. There is no disputing this. So I ask, what is worst, failing to check your dial or breaking out by half a second? Some of you have made your opinions based on your feelings rather than the facts and rules we are all supposed to compete by. Everything points to both DD Savage and Troy screwing up. Casey violated no rule and the computer gave him the win. The DD decided to disregard the rules and give the win to Troy. That is a fact. Just because he gave the win to the wrong driver, for whatever reason, doesn't make it right or defensible. 1.4 FINALITY OF DECISIONS BY EVENT DIRECTOR, DESIGNEES OR OTHER EVENT OFFICIALS Last sentence in paragraph one is worth reading. “While the decisions, actions or inactions of Event Officials are not appealable, NHRA reserves the right to reverse such decisions or review such actions or inactions on its own initiative if it determines, in its sole and absolute judgment, that such action is warranted.” I intend to ask NHRA to review this situation and make a decision. Jim .
