IHRA going back to class racing - Page 14

MIR is fast and we always seem to go lots of rounds there. So obviously we loved racing there and eating crabs! We also bought a bushell of soft shells on the way home!

Same here. But the thing that sticks in my mind was that the fast cars could not get stopped before the last return road turnoff and had to turn around at the end of the track and drive back towards the starting line to be able to get to the turnoff and leave the track.

I know it sounds like an accident waiting to happen, but the staff was on top of things and I never saw even the smallest problem. A very memorable place to race.

I haven't been to Empire in over 20 years. My only problem then was the dust. Ray said that they have made many improvements. I'd definitely try it again.

I don't want to go out on a limb and say that all pit roads are paved. I am sure it is close to completely paved. Dust is no longer a problem. Much more paved pits spots than before. Ray

MIR holds many great memories of racing there in early June for several years. For some reason we always went rounds there, a few semifinals, one final round and even one year we entred the Gamblers Race on Friday night went to the semis and lost to George Rupert. He went by me like a dot in the distance with his Vette and disappeared into the darkness of the shut down area. On Sunday we again went to the semis and lost to my old friend Matt Rover who went on to win the event.
We used to pit with Jerry Stein, the Leopolds and one year Steve Bagwell. We ate Blue Crabs and Soft Shells all weekend long, even for breakfast!
Those were the days.
