I do believe the 58 Impala was a convertible. When the top goes down the price goes up. I have been to the BJ several times and it is almost the best car show I have ever been to. I never did buy a car there but it is fun to watch the cars and bidders. The Hershey Pa. swap meet and car show is probably my pick for best show. Just My 2 Cents Rick Cates |

![]() Who wouldn't want a perfect Amphicar in his personal museum. The convertible 58 Impala was a 348 with a three on the tree. That sounds like fun to drive. ![]() The LS-6 '70 Chevelle prices are over inflated at B-J Mecum auction prices seem to be closer to "real world" prices |

I like the first one a whole lot, and I'm sure you do to. I know there is lots of hype, but it sure is nice to see what comes across the block. 1969 AMERICAN MOTORS AMX COUPE http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO RS COUPE http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS 396 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1967 PLYMOUTH GTX 2 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1969 PONTIAC GTO http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1955 FORD FAIRLANE SUNLINER CONVERTIBLE http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1970 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 1969 FORD MUSTANG 428 CJ http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=1 |

I saw Rick Hendrick buy a car. Announcer said that was his third car he purchased at BJ.
I figure here was a car guy just like us-only he had a pocket full of money to spend. Maybe he had a $200k cd sitting in the bank at .75% interest. Or his stock broker called him with (another) hot stock tip and he said screw it, I'm going to buy a car i can go to the garage and look at, drive or keep it for a couple years and resell it and make money. (Unless he buys a Ray Allen car). No sense in letting someone else have fun with that money. If I had his money, I'd do the same thing. The part that I don't like is that I would like to find a 63-67 Corvette that I want to restore myself. BJ has drove the prices so high that I cant find a reasonable priced project car. By the time I pay top dollar for a car and restore it, the cost will be prohibitive. I won't buy a finished car. Not my style. ___________________________________ Andy Stone 1102 A/S 1112 SS/C |

The black 55 was his 3rd or 4th of the day. He bought a handful of various cars on Friday, also.

I also have a buddy with a nearly totally orginal and correct '70 Boss 429 Mustang. I don't think it has seen the light of day in 20+ years. It was once appraised at something like $50K but that was a long time ago......He syas it's his retirement..........

I have a friend in western Md who was and maybe still is one better known guys in NCRS.
Last I heard he has somewhere north of 45 Corvettes in his garage. They are all 1-3's on a 1-5 scale. I hate show up at his house cause I know what the outcome will be. I will never forget the sound of that 63 fuel car with the gas pedal on the floor. __________________________________ Andy Stone 1102 A/S 1112 SS/C |

I was at the auction the entire week. (Working, not buying) Yes cars went for insane money. Lots of cars auctioned for charity as well.
The bargains were in the early morning hours between 10am and about noon. Saw a great little 1963 Nova all original with about 31,000 miles sell for around 6K. Would have been fun for driving around if nothing else. Oh and the Bugatti Veryon that Jackson had to buy back after the Vegas bidding fiasco last fall? He drove it in each day and parked it in a corral by the staging lanes. It had BJ decals on the doors and windshield. Those are my random thoughts on the week in Scottsdale. -Karen |
