Its official!!! Craig Jackson "the blowhard of arizona" just LOST 2.0 million dollars!!!!
His pride and joy 1970 plymouth hemi cuda convertable just dropped 2.0 million in value. A original 1970 plymouth hemi cuda convertable ( the last one produced in 1970)authenticated by Galen Govier on hand himself just sold @ Russo&Steele 1.55 mil. I guess this means his bubble has burst and a hemi challenger convertable failed to meet reserve @ $750,000.00. Working in the collector car dealer biz myself we saw a HUGE drop in attendance at all the auctions this year. & no real money bidders to speak of. Other than the prearranged sales @ Barretts.. In this market a car is only worth the what the market will bear. Now we know the market has let Craig "Jokeson "know what it is instead of him dictating it. |

And if R&S just sold one for $1.55 million dollars, that's some pretty strong money, for any car! Perhaps you are not aware that most of that e-body Hemi market was created by BW and friends pushing up sales between them. BW pulled the plug and the house of cards came falling down. And that happened a few years ago.

I enjoy watching the shows strictly for the love of the cars as a car show - nothing more. I know I will not be able to afford these cars, but it is nice to be able to see the cars go across the block and talk to my wife or kids about the various models. The biggest drama I see are the number of commercials. Speed cannot show more than three BJ cars without going to a commercial break and sometimes just one car then to commercials. That is the shame of the BJ show. Mecum does not have the number of commercials and I do not catch much of the RS auctions.
There are pros and cons to having the "no reserve" bids. You can certainly take it in the shorts on some of the cars. The 427/400 66-67 Corvette that sold for 50k without the original motor seemed like a good buy. I know if I were to buy a mid year Vette, it would be one that I could drive around without fear of road debris knicks or worse. I do not think many people could replicate that particular car for that amount of money. Have you noticed how quick or delayed the auctioneer is on dropping the hammer? Seems like they are pushing some cars across and drop the hammers too quick while other cars they are creating and dragging on the drama well past any further bids. I'll continue to watch the auctions although the tv at work does not have Speed or HD Theatre channels. So I'll catch the reruns of BJ and Mecum when I can. |

I think they spent too much time on the Kennedy ambulance. Probably to have enough documentation to protect themselves from a possible law suit... They basicly kept saying buy as you think it may be on your own opinion.....Did not want to mis-represent and then be held liable .....What y'all think ?

Exactly right Danny they were trying like hell to cover their but on that one. A few years ago good friend and car collector bought what was suppose to be an original L89 69 RS/SS 396/375 alumunum head car (only made 311 I believe) just like Sherwood and Michael Allens Soul Survivor car but this one is Code 10 Black (rarest color) with houndstooth int. optioned out the ying yang and he called me before bidding on it to see what I thought it was worth. I said anything under $150k is a deal so they represented the car as numbers matching and original and he paid $98k plus the 10% and had it shipped up to MD. He thought he hit the lotto but him being essentially a Mopar guy he is not that keen on Chevy's and was going by it being represented as numbers matching etc. Hell like I told him if it's not right you would probably have a good lawsuit on them if they represented it as #'s matching etc. He called me up and I went up there to look at it and this thing was obviously a clone which I see all the time in this business... the block was a newer 454 that was re-stamped with new style GM aluminum heads cowl tag was questionable was never an RS car originally and the list went on and on. So we had Z28 Camaroman (Jerry MacNeish) come out to verify what I already knew and he blew it out of the water big time. If you are ever buying a high end Chevrolet muscle car it is well worth the money to have someone of Jerry's caliber to look at it first. Well my buddy contacted BJ and they put it all on the dealer who consigned the car and weaseled right out of the situation and when all the smoke cleared the dealer who I will not name had to take the car back and gave him a REAL 66 Corvette conv 327/350hp car and a late model BMW M3 and $20k in cash and settled out of court. The best part is I did a little research on the car (muscle car bus. is a small world) and found out the dealer bought the car at another auction the previous year and the car was represented as a clone at this auction and went for around $45k and was in the exact same condition. Well the auction was video taped and we got a copy of the tape of them buying the car as a clone so at this point he really had them by the balls so they settled out of court and my buddy actually came out ahead after all said and done. But I can tell you first hand there is alot of BS going on at most of these collector car auctions and for the most part BJ is where you wanna sell...... NOT BUY.

There have been 2 certain green '69 camaros at B-J over the last 2 or 3 years that may have caused Craig Jackson considerable pain, and may have influenced the way they conducted the ambulance auction last night. One was a RS/Z-28 that had been rebodied, and the other was the notorius COPO ZL-1 #27 that has been the source of much controversey. The COPO was bought in the mid '70s by NHRA racer Chuck Sharin...he took the car to a chassis shop to be made into a C/SM car and the shop ruined the car for that class...cut out the floor out completely and some other stuff. Chuck took the VIN off the car and put it on another that he made into a race car just so he could get a title for it if for the future prospect of selling the car. I think Chuck took the shop owner to court over that fiasco, even had a known chassis builder (Al Swindahl) and NHRA tech inspector/director(?) Valentine testify. Chuck has been very open and honest about this whole ordeal and hides nothing, he has written about his actions on many internet message forums and names people specificaly. I think the way the story goes is Chuck sold the Super Mod and somewhere down the road that VIN was put on another '69 camaro and was then made into a COPO ZL-1 clone/rebody etc. Reggie Jackson had the car sometime later and sold it to someone in Illinois who had the car inspected.....it was discovered that the VIN and hidden VIN were different and Reggie took the car back. 2 years ago this infamous COPO ZL-1 #27 rolled across the block and sold for about one-third the value of a legit ZL-1...all the while Craig Jackson was pumping up the auction and people in the know stayed away from the car....I remember Ron Pratt was zoomed in on during the auction and he never looked up, totally disinterested in the car (he knew the deal and had been burnt on the other green Z-28 ). The unsuspecting buyer of COPO ZL-1 #27 learned within a few days the car is a fake, and lots of people knew about it, and contacted Chuck S who said a deal was being worked out with the buyer and B-J. I remember the auction well, Reggie Jackson was on the stage and was shill bidding the car up and all that. I will look over at camaros.net and find the link, might make good winter reading.
