The first iteration of Kent's 302 was in that car and ran 11.19@121 in 1982. Kent bought it in 1985 and he did much better with it than I did.
I was at that race! My partner and I, with Ray Allen driving, set the H/S record that weekend. Sept. 1970 Atco. I don't recall anything about Tony Pizzi though from the race.

I do recall Don Nicholson set the Pro Stock record at 9.60 and he got on the scales directly in front of us.

Jeff, what are you getting at? Are you wanting some attention paid to the CJs? All I remember was taking the D record away from SE with the 302 !! LOL!!

No Dwight, Just giving credit where it is due, that was a bad@ss 302 though. Looks like the answer is Waldo. Maybe the Waldos will chime in.
Take care Big D.

Dwight's correct, my Dad made the first 10 second Stock Eliminator run at Seattle on May 6, 1978. He went 10.95 at 124.82 to set the A/S national record.

Interestingly, it was exactly 23 years to the day (May 6, 2001) that Bobby DeArmond ran the first 9 second run at Mission.

That is really cool...same date, 23 years less one second apart!

Thanks Guys for the history lesson. It is really cool to hear all the stories about all the old rides that made the history and sometime from those that made it.

Thanks

There were a few differences. I don't remember all of them but I'm sure that someone does. Among the ones that I recall:

1. Tires - 7" in 1971 v. 9" in 1978
2. Pistons - Unrestricted on weight and valve relief in 1971 v. factory piston in 1978
3. Allowable overbore - .060 in 1971 v. .030? in 1978 (things were changing pretty fast in '78. I'm not sure on the overbore rule at that point in time.

What else am I forgetting?

What about weight brakes and cars that were allowed..
unrestricted on valve relief? in that case what about cams?

Hey Dwight, If I remember correctly it was 1983 Green Valley you blasted doun the track with a 11.30 something for the record, only to give it up to S.E. & Kuntz when they made their run behind you a blistering 11.27. Little did you know that they had worked on the old CJ every night for a week getting it as perfect as it could be. I had also set my first SS/G record that weekend. LOL Are we having fun?
